Measúna Scoil Uile

Tá an tuairisc maidir leis an MSU, a rinneadh i nGaelscoil Ultain i bhFómhar 2009, foilsithe anois ar shuíomh idirlíon na Roinne Oideachais.

The report of the Whole School Evaluation of Gaelscoil Ultain, carried out by inspectors from the Department of Education and Skills a in October 2009, is now available on the Department of Education and Skills website (in Irish and English).

The evaluation focused on the quality of several aspects of the school including: school management; school planning; support for pupils; and learning and teaching – particularly with regards to Irish, Mathematics and History.

The following is a summary of the findings of the report – firstly, the main strengths identified in the evaluation:

  • The basic principles of Irish-medium education are put into effect energetically, enthusiastically and creditably.
  • A strong and united community promotes the school’s vision and the board of management and the parents’ committee work arduously and steadfastly to achieve the school’s aims.
  • The capable principal provides a stimulating and inspirational leadership to all parties and he directs reflective self-assessment and ongoing school improvement in a progressive manner.
  • The enthusiastic staff employs a variety of effective teaching methods and successful learning activities to develop the potential of every pupil progressively and with understanding.
  • A very pleasant learning atmosphere is generated for the pupils which develops their self-respect and self-confidence. The pupils display great respect for one another and diligence in their work.
  • The listening, oral and reading skills of the pupils in Irish are suitably developed and a high standard is achieved therein. It is comendable that Irish is promoted as the language of communication in all contexts.
  • The pupils, according to their abilities, are achieving high standards in Mathematics.
  • An interesting and stimulating programme is followed in History with particular emphasis on local history and the pupils develop their skills and knowledge of the subject to advantage.
  • Very effective provision is made for pupils in the school who have special learning needs.
  • An effective assessment system is employed in the school and it has a positive influence on teaching and learning.

Secondly, as a means of building on these strengths and to identify areas for further development, the following recommendations were made by the evaluators:

  • It is recommended that the capabilities of the pupils in Irish writing are further developed.
  • A learning programme should be devised and put into operation for pupils of high ability.
